Quick browse:

Step 1: Prepare your photo and text

  1. Start with your base picture on one layer.

  2. Then add your text by opening the wrench icon menu, picking the Add submenu, and selecting "Add text".

Close up of Procreate's Add submenu with a finger overing over the "Add Text" option.

Pro tip: Once you're done typing, you can change the formatting by tapping on the 2 A's on the right.

Close up of Procreate's text menu with an Apple Pencil hovering over the formatting icon.

Step 2: Mask parts of your text

  1. To create the photo blending effect, open your layer panel, tap on the text layer, and select "Mask".

  2. From there, tap on the layer mask and erase parts of the text you want to hide.

  3. To bring back any over-erased section, draw on your mask using pure white.

Pro Tip: For this step, it might be helpful to lower the opacity of your text layer so you can see the picture through the text.
